Sedus Stoll AG, is a full-range supplier of office furniture and workplace concepts. The company founded in 1871, manufactures high-quality furniture “Made in Germany” at two sites in Germany. With 9 subsidiaries in Europe, Dubai and worldwide distribution in over 70 countries, Sedus Stoll is one of the largest office furniture manufacturers in Europe.

The reason why Sedus Stoll uses ORTEC’s route optimization software for SAP ERP

For quality assurance, Sedus Stoll operates its own fleet of vehicles.
The dispatchers have to schedule deliveries to customers in Germany and in other European countries, as well as to subsidiaries and between production sites.

  • Prior to the implementation of the ORTEC solution, Sedus Stoll’s schedulers planned de-centralized from both production sites using the standard SAP transport transaction and with external Windows tools. Relating problems were system breakdowns, combined with a high manual effort and the lack of transparency in the planning processes.
  • Therefore, choosing a software solution provider also required the need for proposals for a coherent process concept for the reorganization and optimization of the previous processes.

The Solution: ORTEC’s route planning software for SAP ERP (O4S) including its route planning/optimisation module SRO

“The solution schedules deliveries in the O4S Planboard, taking into account the given restrictions, such as opening hours of the recipients, e.g.” explains Thorben Reinhard, Consultant at ORTEC.

The challenge to maintain the pre-planning process by the dispatchers was met with a specially developed “rolling planning”; this way, access to the complete SAP order pool is possible at any time. Orders can be selected accordingly via the O4S status concept. Dispatchers can also intervene manually in the automatic planning process, supported visually by an integrated map.

  • Familiar SAP environment where the dispatchers work and can plan the tours on a weekly level, with a lead time of 14 days before the goods are delivered. The office furniture manufacturer is thus able to notify its customers of the delivery date at an early stage (10 days before the shipment begins).
  • Early notification of delivery dates makes it easy for Sedus Stoll to react on feedback and change requests from customers in relation to a previously announced delivery date and to adjust planned tours if necessary.
  • Complete process integration without additional interfaces thanks to ORTEC’s integration into the standard SAP process.
  • Trouble-free substitution of dispatchers by employees without extensive experience is possible, as relevant rules and information are now embedded in the route planning optimizer.
