SAP Logistic Case Kaldewei – Optimal Load Planning for sophisticated Bathrooms Solutions

leading manufacturer of high-quality shower surfaces, bathtubs and washbasins, Kaldewei Germany, converted its complete transport and shipping management into a single SAP-integrated logistics management system. ORTEC’s SAP embedded, pallet and load optimization solution was chosen as part of this project.

Sophisticated products require extremely complex logistics

Kaldewei products are in demand throughout the world – the company is represented in 80 countries with 12 wholly owned subsidiaries. All bathrooms solutions are exported with “made in Germany” from Ahlen in Germany. The Kaldewei product range comprises of more than 600 different models. These include items such as high-quality bathtubs, shower surfaces, washbasins as well as various whirlpool systems, installation systems and accessories. The logistics required for these sophisticated products is extremely complex. To optimize all processes, Kaldewei has decided to replace its various inhouse applications with a comprehensive Logistics Optimization embedded in their SAP Environment.

Logistics Optimization in the SAP Environment

As an integral part of the shipping application, Kaldewei chose ORTEC for SAP with its modules for pallets and loading space optimization.

The process:

The software generates the original product pallets from the individual delivery items, their quantity, weight and dimensions within the scope of pallet optimization.
These are based on the orders recorded in SAP, which include the specified packing requirements with respect to material, customer and order.
Subsequently, optimum packing suggestions for the order picking pallets are generated for the remaining products.

A special challenge is the fitting together of bathtubs and shower trays of different dimensions, i.e. objects that are not square.
This solution was of particular importance for Kaldewei and was carried out to the company’s utmost satisfaction.

Target reached: Minimization of the number of original and order picking pallets

The target of the optimization is an overall minimized number of original and order picking pallets.
The results determined by ORTEC for SAP supply clear packing requirements for the order picker and form the basis for the subsequent loading space optimization and order picking control.
The load space optimization shows how the original and order picking pallets can be loaded together with possibly loose loaded packages into a means of transportation, such as a trailer, swap body or sea freight containers.
All results can be shown both as graphic representations and parts lists.

This transparent manner of graphical representation contributes significantly to the user acceptance of ORTEC for SAP.
